Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Kazakhstan discussed the current international agenda in the world
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomenas and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko discussed various issues of developing bilateral cooperation and the current international agenda in the world during a round of political consultations between Kazakhstan and Lithuania. The parties confirmed that a stable political dialogue is developing between the countries, maintaining mutual understanding on the most pressing issues of the current geopolitical situation and responding to security challenges in the region. On various international platforms, mutual support is provided for the initiatives of countries that meet their national interests. One of the most pressing issues during the consultations was trade and economic cooperation. Today, Lithuania is among the ten largest trade partners of Kazakhstan among the EU countries. In turn, Kazakhstan is among the twenty largest trading partners of Lithuania in the world. Thus, at the end of 2022, trade volumes increased by 28.7% and reached $584.3 million. The participants of the consultations stressed that cooperation in the transit and transport sector is a priority area of cooperation between the two countries. First of all, the parties discussed the issue of connecting the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route with railway intermodal terminals in Kaunas and Vilnius and the seaport of Klaipeda. This facility will make it possible to deliver Kazakhstani and other transit cargoes to the markets of the Baltic countries, Scandinavia and Western Europe. The parties also provided for concrete steps to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and culture, including increasing the number of Kazakh students in Lithuania and preserving historical heritage sites.
