Lithuania‘s Permanent Representative met with WTO Director General
On September 27, Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Donatas Tamulaitis met with WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and discussed preparation for WTO Ministerial confernce (MC12).
D. Tamulaitis drew the attention to the slow progress in multilateral negotiations and the need to reform the WTO so that the organization could operate more effectively. In the context of the reform, the integration of plurilateral agreements into the WTO structure would strengthen the negotiating function.
"The success of MC12 will depend on the outcome of the Fisheries subsidies negotiations and the WTO response to the pandemic, but we expect the most ambitious outcome in the plurilateral negotiations on Domestic Services Regulation", - the Permanent Representative noted.
D. Tamulaitis informed about Lithuania's decision to contribute to the WTO Global Trust Fund, which is intended to help developing countries implement WTO rules and facilitate integration into the global trading system.
