On 14 June, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas conferred the award of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Lithuania’s Diplomacy Star – on the outgoing Special Envoy for Belarus of the United States in Lithuania Julie Fisher.

“We highly appreciate all Julie Fisher’s efforts to increase global awareness of the situation in Belarus. We admire her charisma, professionalism and dedication to our common Lithuanian and American goals of freedom and democracy. Thank you, Ambassador, for your excellent cooperation and personal contribution to the strategic partnership between the United States and Lithuania," Adomėnas said when presenting the award.

Fisher gained valuable career experience while serving in assignments at U.S. embassies in Tbilisi, Kyiv and Moscow, tours at the National Security Council, and the Bureau of European Affairs, which is part of the United States Department of State and which helped her in the Private Office of the Secretary General of NATO, also when she worked as the Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission to NATO, and, later, as the U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus. Fisher firmly believed that even if there was no possibility to reside in Minsk, the U.S. representative had to relocate to a new place in close proximity to Belarus. It is this belief that has led to an unprecedented decision of the U.S. Department of State to relocate her to Vilnius as the U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus, a position for which she holds ambassadorial rank.
